We were going to throw out our old kitchen towels ( since we bought replacement ones ).
I decided to repurpose them into hot mats.
We did this with one of our old towels in the past. It came in so handy when you needed a large area to lay a hot baking sheet or larger skillet on the counter.
I folded the towels in half, sewing the edges together.
Viola! New hot mats you can throw in the laundry if they get dirty, stained or wet, saving the hot mitts for getting pans and pots off the stove and oven,
